8. Common features of graphics software

If you make use of a graphics package then these are the more common features in use.

Layers

Many graphic packages support the idea of 'layers'. This is where you can place images stacked within layers on top of each other in the same file. You can manipulate each layer without affecting the pixels on another layer. For example, you could change the transparency of one layer, so the layer beneath shows through.

Cropping

Part of the image is cut out or removed to leave you with just the part of the graphic required.

Resizing

Images can be made either larger or smaller.
