7. Rollercoaster design

Rollercoasters are another example of a structure that needs to be modelled before it is built. 

Engineers need to prove that the roller coaster is a sound design and can easily take the stresses and strains of thousands of train rides it will handle in its lifetime.

They also need to be able to test the G forces applied to make sure that it won’t stress the body too much or make people uncomfortable.

One thing that makes a roller coaster great fun is 'negative g', it is that time when you virtually float off your seat.

Modelling can exactly predict when and for how long this will happen.
