Toolbar

A software term.

A 'toolbar' is an area on screen that consists of a group of icons and selection boxes. Each icon in the toolbar is a 'tool' that has a specific purpose. Perhaps to save or print a file.

For example a common tool icon in a graphics package is a tilted bucket. This is the 'Fill Tool'. Another very common one is a floppy disk icon. You expect this to be a File Save function.

Icons have the advantage over text because they are understood across in many countries regardless of language. They have almost become an international language in themselves.
