TSL
A browser security protocol. Short for Transport Layer Security.
If you are using a browser to visit a web site then any sensitive data you may exchange needs to be secure and immune to being read or modified by criminals. For example you may fill out a web form detailing credit card information.
This is the purpose of the protocol - all sensitive data between your browser and the server is encrypted by the TLS protocol built into the browser.
TLS has superseded the older SSL protocol.
A secure web site needs to purchase a TLS certificate from an authorising body (it is still called an SSL certificate for historical reasons).
The SSL certificate is loaded on to the server and its details is sent to your browser to establish a secure connection.
A secured site starts with https:\\ rather than https:\\
