Meta Tag
Meta Tags are pieces of information that describes some facts about the raw data file. For example a music MP3 file may contain not only the music data itself, but additional 'meta tags' that provide the name of the song, who sang it etc.
A camera photograph file may contain not only the pixel information, but also meta tags that describe when it was taken and other technical information.
Meta Tags are also common in web page code. They too, describe what the page is about, but the meta tags are not visible in the normal browser view.
