4. Example Question

Example exam question:

A bank already has a set of leaflets which tell customers about the services on offer, for example, mortgages, savings accounts and insurance.

Describe how these leaflets can be reformatted so that the information can be presented to customers via an automated presentation in the branch.

Example points to make in your answer

Larger font size can be used on the electronic presentation than in the leaflets because the text will need to be readable from across the bank.

Large open font style should be used that is easy to read on the screen. Not everyone has good eyesight, they might not have their glasses with them, however, the bank will want all customers to be able to view the text.

Font colour should be easy to read against the background colour. The leaflets will probably have black text on a white background. A coloured background can be used in the presentation, but it is important to consider that the lighting in the bank may not be that bright, so there must be a good contrast between the text colour and the background colour.

Use of font emphasis for important points e.g. bold for special interest rates. Although the leaflet might have headings or key points underlined, this should be avoided in the electronic presentation as any underlined text might look like a hyperlink.

The leaflets are probably formatted as portrait orientation. The monitor in the bank would be a landscape orientation, thus the electronic presentation needs to be designed as a landscape orientation to ensure that it displays correctly.

The amount of information given to customers would need to be reduced from what is published in the leaflets. Customers don't have time to read lots of detail on a screen. The information should be presented as bullet points with no more than around 4-5 bullet points per slide. Customers can be referred to the leaflets for further information.

The brochures will probably have small margins. They have a lot of information to impart to customers on a small sheet of paper. However, the electronic presentation would benefit from fairly large margins. This means that there won't be too much text on the screen and it also means that customers who are viewing the presentation at different angles should still be able to see all of the information on the screen.

Keep the line spacing in the electronic presentation fairly large. The brochures would probably have text in single line spacing. The presentation might be more appropriate in 1.5 or double line spacing so that the text doesn't seem too crowded.

The brochure will probably be left aligned or fully justified. The presentation could follow the same style of alignment as the brochure.
