Texting

A mobile phone service was developed that allowed you to send a short text message from one mobile phone to another. People informally call this 'texting'. Or they say 'Can you text me'

The technical term is an SMS service. (see SMS service in the glossary)

People have become very creative in writing a text message because it needs to entered quickly and has to be short. For example

Plz tell yr m8s about ths gr8 site cya.

It's enough to make an English teacher weep, but it does the job!
