Systems Analysis

Systems are made up of individual parts that interact with one another. The system itself also interacts with the outside world.

Systems Analysis is carried out when there needs to be a change to the system in some way. Any change tends to affect a number of internal parts and also affects how the system itself behaves as a whole, so Analysis will highlight the effects of a change.

A 'system' can be anything have more than one part to it. For example the 'Ordering system' of a company may involve many departments such as Logistics (moving products within the company), Accounts (raising invoices and processing payments), Despatch (sending goods out to customers), Supply (dealing with suppliers) and so on.

A 'Systems Analyst' is a person who examines the change required and then put a project together to make it happen.
