A 'screenshot' is an image of the computer screen showing something of interest

For example screenshots are handy for recording an error message. You may want to email this image to a help desk to show exactly what the error is displaying.

It is simple to make a screenshot; press the Print Screen key. This will copy an image of the screen to the clipboard. You can then paste this into a package such as Word, as an image. You can then crop the image to only show part of the screen.

If you only want to capture the active window then use Ctrl Alt Print Screen together.

Print Screen is fine as a basic screen capture method, but there are also software packages that go further by offering to let you define an area of the screen and so on. These are sometimes called 'screen grabbers'.
