Portal

A portal is a web site or page which acts as a 'gateway' or catalogue to help you find other web sites which may be of interest to you.

For example, when you log onto your email page, you might see links to horoscopes, the weather, today's TV programs, news headlines, online shopping sites etc.

Very often, the providers of the portal will let you customise the portal to suit yourself. For example you can choose a colour scheme. You may be able to pick and choose from a number of 'widgets' that interest you. For example maybe you don't want to see the horoscope, but you do want to see the today's television listing.
