Interactive Whiteboard

School have traditionally used good old chalk and blackboard to explain things to a class. This was all that was available at the time.

Then computers came along in the 1980's, but nothing much changed, as these too were brand new. Blackboard, chalk and computers lived separately in the classroom for a few years.

Then in the last 15 years or so, engineers developed very large display screens. Big enough to replace blackboards in fact. So quite quickly, the computer was combined with the large display and the 'Interactive Whiteboard' was born.

An interactive whiteboard can take what is being shown on the computer screen and display it for all the class to see. Students and teachers can interact with the screen by tapping it to select items or menus. They can also drag windows around just as you would with a mouse.
