Cylinder
A term used to describe a 'logical' part of a hard disk storage device.
A hard disk is usually made up of a number of physical platters stacked above each other, all spinning on a single spindle.
Each platter has a number of circular tracks on its surfaces that store bytes. For example a single platter may have a 1000 tracks. Now each platter will have a track number 300 for example, and if there are four platters, there will be four track number 300, each one vertically below the other. These four 'track 300s' are called a cylinder.
