Follow our five quick tutorials to remind yourself of some of the basic tools available in a graphics package.  You will need to use some of these skills again in the very near future.

One of your first tasks will be to choose a memorable and catchy name for the band.

What sort of colours would you associate with your band and their type of music? Heavy metal might be blacks, reds and metallics whereas a girl band might be pinks or pastels.

What makes a good logo?

  1. It should be easy to recognise
  2. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
  3. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.
  4. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

Creating your logo

On a blank piece of paper, sketch out two or three different versions of a logo for your band.

Don’t worry about being artistic, this is just an opportunity to get some ideas down on paper before you start working on the computer.

  1. Try different shapes and colours
  2. Try a mixture of text and images
  3. Try your text at different angles
  4. Try it with borders and no borders

Once you have at least two versions of a possible logo ask your fellow students which one they prefer.  Also ask if they have any suggestions on possible improvements.

When you have made  your decision start to create your logo using graphics software.

Make sure you save your logo as both a .psd file and an appropriate format to use in documents e.g. .jpg or .gif.

Find out for yourself which would be the best choice.
