How many of you have had an operation?

How would you feel if you knew that your operation was going to be performed by a robot instead of a human?

Only a few weeks ago we heard about a new robot which is being used to carry out heart surgery. There are already robots helping with kidney transplants and eye surgery.

The claims are that robots cause less damage and bleeding for the patient and are more accurate than a human surgeon could ever be. But, there have been cases where people have died following such surgery.

Why not. If the surgen loses concentration you're dead, with the development of Robotic operations you're chance of survial must increase.

I think that robotic surgery is a good thing because technology has advanced over the past few years so there would be a very small chance for a glitch. Also, operations may cost less and patients would be treated quicker because they can get more robots for cheaper than a doctor, and robots can't ask for pay rises or quit.

I'd be OK with robots operating on me. They ARE more accurate. I'd want them to be under a surgeon's control, though. A programmed robot can't act on an unpredictable circumstance. Also, if you happen to have your organs in a slightly different place, the robot will act as programmed. I vote robots under human control.

Why not if they were programmed and worked proply then i say go for it they might be abel to do the job better than some doctors. the only worry is if they went wrong power cut etc

Howaday i am from Texas in the USA, robots a re rthe future and soo nthey will have robots to do everything for use. They have sent robots to Mars but no humans have ever been there. Certainly robots are the future but i wouldn't ben keen on having one operate on me, eventhough this may have to be the case in the very near future

Although my opinion does depend on the operation, if it was a major operation I think I would prefer a person operating on me, because he/she has feelings and can care about doing the job right and respect the value of my life.

I would rather have a robot operating on me. More precise and less errors will be made due to the robots being programmed. Although problems would occur if the robot was programmed wrong. But I should imagine there will be features that will stop the robots actions, should it realise a mistake has been made because of its validation rules.

Robots would be a lot eaiser to use than humans and you wouldn't have to pay them, but they could take over the world for WORLD DOMINATION!!!!

well if a robot can get u in a comfortable possition, i see nothing wrong with robots performing surgery. but a scary thing is that certain parts of robots are very big and may make big holes which could be painful afterwards!

As someone who has a heart defect and may well one day have to have corrective surgery, I have looked into this!! One of the big advantages of this robot surgery as far as heart surgery is concerned is there is no need to crack open the patients rib cage to get to the heart. The robot can work through three relatively small holes! This means far less trauma to the patient and much faster recovery times. They have been used for a number of years in America and have proved to be very successful. Oh and by the way they are controlled by humans and are really just a tool. (Robots still only do what their told to!!!)

I think that some of the people against this are uninformed and do not understand what this idea actually is, and for some reason can't spell. You can say that there have been cases where people have died, but there is no proof that they wouldn't have died if it had benn a Human Doctor. You say they can't react to unexpected problems, but as far as I understand there is always a Doctor operating the robot.

Robot surgery can be very good but it depends what position the human is in and where the robot is planned to go. In the end I don't think they are very good at doing operations

I thinks that its a good idea. But for you people that if the power goes out that would be the end for you well that is just not true you may die but they is always battery backup power which means that a battrey pack could and maybe already is fitted to the robot so if the power did go off the battery pack would kick in.

I think that this surgery is better.Although it is dangerous, but it also can treat the patient fasterly. These surgery have been use in the worldwide.

hi I think robot surgergy is not a good idear at all beacause robots replace hard working people and may put them out of jobs. robots should be used for unwnted jobs like for doing house work or summin! But my opinion wont make any difference so bye!!

I think that the idea of robot surgery is absolutely terrible. What's gunna happen when the robot gets a glitch and makes a wrong move that permanantly destroys the human - possibly killing them?! I think its a VERY STUPID idea!!
