UK DNA National database?

Britain has the largest DNA database of its citizens in the world.

It holds details of over 4 million people. These include people who have been found guilty of a crime as well as those suspected of a crime but eventually cleared.

A couple of weeks ago, a senior judge said that the database should record the DNA profile of every single person in the UK and not only that but also every visitor who comes to the UK.

There is no doubt that the current database has helped police to solve many crimes. Some people feel that expanding this database to record everyone’s DNA would really help to combat and solve many more crimes and if you are innocent then you have nothing to fear.

However, a lot of people are worried about this idea; they think that it would invade our right to privacy.

There are also concerns that the data might get into the hands of commercial companies such as insurance, loan and employers. If it could be used to identify that you had a genetic risk for a serious disease, could you find yourself refused life insurance, a loan, or even a job?

I think this is a good idea so everyone can be on the database and if there is any crime they will know who it was straight away.

i think its a good thing because you can identify people through your DNA and then again it's a bad thing because the database could get mixed up if there was to many people with the same name then it would come up with all of them

yes because if the police wont to see what is wrong with you because you are having a fit or something they can look it up.

i think that they sould have a data base ut only for the people who have been in trouble or people in prison and they al might have the same name so if some ones been in troublee and they get left out before them and they wannt see them in prison then they shouldnt be able because they might get them in trouble agin i think that is a great idea

Well, it is good because then you can solve many crimes and many criminals will be locked up where they belong, and the people who are innocent don't have anything to worry about but the criminals do so it really it don't matter. People should use this then, becuase the innocent people will be alright and we will defintitly find the criminals if its as good as it says it is. We can solve mysterys such as people who are missing, most of them, as its only in the UK. If its is good as it says it is, then we should definitly do this, it will be probabaly be the only way that we can solve things, even better than the investigators police, so theres my opinion and i defintily think that we should do this lie detector, its a very good idea, but kind of bad because invades your privacy, incase you did one off, and people took it the wrong idea, and people should have their own privacy, well thats what i think. But i do thnk it is good, don't get me wrong :) so yeah its a good idea (Y) but i am kind of worried about it, not that ive done anything :) just saying. But oh well good idea yeah (y) xx

i think this is a good idea because it will help the police to solve the crimes people have done and as long as the police dont give the information out to anyone else it is a good idea!it will help investergators as well and aslong as the police dont make mistakes then i will help people not to be blamed for crimes they did not do!

in my opinion this is a brilliant idea and will bring alot of help to resolve crimes and even more The idea of inviding our privacy is complitely riddiculous. They will just take our DNA and leave us alone, nobody will be watching, what are we doing. DNA in not something, that keeps secret information, it's not even sdomething we're actually use! This is just an information: THAT person, exatly THAT person. As I sayed, this is really good system. The only problem might be in practice, if there will be an error in the system, or someone will hack into it, but it all is only up to securities, up to something that depends on US, not an idea.

i think that this idea will be useful when you want to solve diffiult crimes but it is a bit unfair if you cannot get a job because of it.

I think that its a bad idea because its invading everyones privacy && It's not fair to do this.It might be able to help find out done crimes but it will take a very long time to have everyones dna including visitors to the country & it isnt worth it when were invading privacy

Hot Topic A national database has its bad points and good points !! ; the good points about it is that it will capture many criminals easily in a short amount of time . there as there is also bad points ... the bad points of this situtaion is that people are not happy about this and think that it is an invision of there privacy . therefore its not a googd idea if the public are not happy with it .

I hope DNA well help the police find crimes because modern tecnolagy get better every year xxxx from paige so im drawn between good and bad its good to find crimes and its bad because somebody could be charged for breaking the law when they never did it

I think that it is a good idea to use it but not insuance because being refused from ou rights is not fair. It will help solve alot of crimes and will be easier for the police to catch the criminal.

Good and it should be used on Passports chips to locate criminals and stop them from entering the country.It can also be used to locate lost siblings.When all countires will work together with a joint network they will be able to minimize crime.A single ID card can be used to store information of DNA , and can be used to identify people in bank ...

i think it could be good but if something goes wrong or a criminal hacked in to it then they could come and find you and kill you but some how cover up it was them like the madiline girl who dissapered and no one will know who did it

I think that even though it is good a criminal will end up hacking into the DNA Database site. So it is a bad idea.

I think that it will help police to solve many crimes but there is the other issue of peoples privcy. helping the police is probably the way to go but peoples privacy should not be givan to commercial companys.

I think this is a bad idea because it would invade peoples right to privacy. If everyones DNA was recorded then people would have access to personal information. If someones DNA was needed for police then they could just get it then. That is why I am totally against it !

I think that it is a bad idea because this data is invading all our privacy meaning any one could look at it. Technology nowadays means that people can hack into the data base and look up all my information . God knows what they would do once they have found it.. So i am totally against it !

I think it's a bad idea. It's scary to think that all my personal information would just being lying around somewhere and I could easily be framed for a crime.
