4. Diagnostic tools and equipment
If you think something is wrong with you then you want the doctor or hospital to be able to diagnose the problem as quickly as possible so that you can begin treatment.
In the past, GPs had to make a diagnosis based just on your symptoms and on basic readings such as temperature, blood pressure and blood samples.
Over the past twenty years there have been some amazing developments in diagnostic tools and equipment.
These tools can make diagnosis much more accurate and faster.
Some examples of new medical tools include:
- CAT scans (Computer Aided Tomography)
- MRI scanners (Magnetic resonance Imaging
- Ultrasound scanners
- X-ray equipment
- Fibre-optic scopes
- ECG machines
