4. Disadvantages of a computerised information system

securityAs with anything IT, there are always some disadvantages:

- If there is a power failure, no one can use the information system.

- Staff will need training so that they know how to use the system. Most computerised systems look complicated and a bit baffling until you understand what to do.

- Security needs to be considered. It is important that unauthorised peole cannot access the information.

- Hardware is expensive. The company will need to invest in terminals for all staff who need to access the information. They will also need to install a network if they don't already have one in operation.

- There is the ever present risk of hackers breaking into the system and getting hold of important information. There is also the risk of a viruses infecting the system which could result in downtime whilst the virus is deleted.
