People like to talk to one another, it is a basic need.

Businesses also need to talk to their staff, their customers and other businesses.

In the distant past, discussions used to be done face to face. Then came the letter which enabled people and businesses to communicate with others further afield, even in different towns. However, this could be a slow method of getting a decision made.

Later came the telephone. Now people could talk with someone who was at the other end of the country and get a response instantly. A little later came transatlantic calls which helped businesses and individuals to keep in touch with people in other countries.
