3. Phishing

phishing“Phishing” is a form of Internet fraud where criminals aim to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords for bank accounts.

They set up a fake website which looks identical to a legitimate company such as a bank or insurance company.

They then send an email to people which is set up to look like a genuine email from the legitimate company. The email tells the customer they need to go to the fake website in the email and log into their account and confirm some details.

If the customer uses the web address given to them in the email, they can easily be tricked into believing that everything is ok because the fake site looks identical to the genuine site.

Of course, once they log in, all of their personal details, account number and security access codes are recorded and can then be used illegally to withdraw money from that person's account.
