8. Disk Drives

The purpose of a disk drive is to read data from a storage device. Common disk drives that you will come across in your studies are:

The hard disk drive is installed inside your computer and it reads data stored on the hard disk.

The floppy, CD and DVD disk drives are installed inside the front of your computer case so that you can load the disks directly into them.

A zip disk drive and a removable hard disk drive are external to the computer and need to be plugged in via a USB port.
