9. Extranet

extranetAn extranet is where parts of a company intranet are made accessible to selected people. These might include key customers, suppliers, business partners or parents.

These people are issued with a user name and password which they can use to log in.

Once they log in, they won't have access to all of the pages or areas on the Intranet, only to certain sections. This limits the amount of information that users can view and enables the company to keep much of their intranet confidential and secure.

Like an Intranet, the Extranet uses Internet protocols so users can navigate through the pages using a web browser.
