Many thanks to Julia Stevens for kindly contributing these superb resources

AS
Serial, sequential and hashing file access

This excellent resource was kindly contributed by Julia to help cover section 514b in the 2512 OCR ICT section.

It is a theory based activity that introduces the concept of the difference between the different methods of access to students. You can then go on to explain the applications.

Entity Identity

This activity provides a very gentle introduction to entities and ERD.

Real Relationships

An activity to encourage students to think about the different types of database relationships.

Resolving Relationships

This activity provides students with a set of example relationships which are set up as 'many to many'.

Their task is to try to resolve the relationships correctly and in so doing, gain a better understanding of this skill.

PPP Pick a Primary Key

An activity which can be given to students to make them think carefully about what would be a suitable primary key for a database.

Cleverly illustrated.

Operating System Wipeout

A useful activity to give to students either at AS level or even GCSE.

They need to identify which are and which aren't tasks of the operating system.

This could be done as a class activity using the whiteboard for a starter/plenary.

DisplayPosters
Good Screen Design Poster

This poster draws out the key points about good screen design when creating applications.

Database Key Posters

A very striking set of two posters highlighting the difference between a primary key and a foreign key.

Macro Poster

Using the letters in the word 'Macro', Julia has highlighted some of the key points that students should consider

Application Wizard Poster

Making use of the letters in the word 'Wizard', Julia has picked out key points that students should think about.

She also highlights some of the drawbacks of using a Wizard by the use of the letters in the word 'alas'
