6. Headers and footers

A header is an area set aside at the top of each page.

Within this area you may include titles, logos or other information that you want repeated on each page in the section.

The main text within the document cannot flow into the header area.

A footer is an area set aside at the bottom of each page.

Within this area you will often find page numbering, file name and dates included. It is also common to find statements such as 'Confidential' located in the footer so that it gets repeated on every page within the section.

Quite often the first page has a different header and footer to the rest of the document. For instance the header and footer may be left blank to avoid distracting details from appearing on the cover page.
