Here are some potential disadvantages of the solution:

Routing ethernet cable can be awkward if trailing cables are to be avoided. For example, trunking may be required and re-decoration.
Access to the internet by a minor means that appropriate parental control is needed
Wireless must be password protected to avoid neighbours connecting to the router
Online games and Instant Messaging can consume many hours (including by parents!) and so shared 'quality time' in the family may be reduced.
Anything other than a simple wireless network requires technical knowledge. For example, cabling and linking more unusual devices such as NAS and HiFi systems.
