When considering the effect that ICT has on society, it is important to think about how it affects people in the following categories:

* young/old
* urban/rural
* rich/poor in towns
* developing countries/the developed world
* low/high ICT skills
* accessibility to digital communications
* disabled/able-bodied
* men/women
* social exclusion (e.g. in deprived neighbourhoods)
* ability to integrate ICT to support work tasks or community goals
