6. GPS and Navigation

GPS helps you determine exactly where you are (Location), but you often just need to know how to get to somewhere else. This is called Navigation.

GPS was originally designed to provide navigation information for ships and planes

But now we can all use it to get to that wedding reception at a certain hotel or to drive to that party an old friend has invited you to.

Another common name for this kind of thing is "Satellite Navigation" or "Sat Nav" for short.

A very important application of navigation is for aircraft to find the way to their destination.

GPS is also used for leisure activities such as hikers and bikers wanting to find their way from one place to another.
